CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior wrestler Chris Jenkins (Tecumseh, Mich.-Tecumseh) was named the Mid-American Conference's Male Co-Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 29. This marks Jenkins' first career weekly MAC academic honor, as he shares the distinction with Central Michigan University wide receiver Bryan Anderson. The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Jenkins, who carries a 3.51 in criminal justice, squared-off against Northwestern's Bobby Joyce at 125 lbs. bout, Nov. 22. Jenkins took control early in the match with a takedown. Just seconds into the third period, Jenkins added an escape to go ahead, 3-0. An extra point for riding time gave Jenkins a 4-0 win and a 6-0 lead for the Eagles. EMU ended up tying Northwestern, 18-18.
