Carlos Medlock leads Eagles with 24 while Bandon Bowdry turns in eighth double-double of year with 16 points and 11 rebounds

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team closed out the 2009 portion of its 2009-10 season with a 72-58 victory over a visiting Northwood University squad here Wednesday, , Dec. 30, in a non-conference game played in the Convocation Center. 

EMU redshirt junior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) turned in the 15th double-double of his career and the eighth of his career with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles, now 7-5 on the year. Senior point guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich. Murray Wright) led EMU with 24 points while sophomore guard Quintin Dailey (Las Vegas, Nev.-Bishop Gorman-Sheridan C.C.) added 10 points. 

Senior forward Lionel Sullivan led the Timberwolves, now 6-3, with 18 points and senior guard Chris Johnson added 12 points. 

The Eagles jumped out to a quick 14-2 lead in the first four minutes with Medlock doing the most damage with six points. 

After the Timberwolves trimmed the lead to six, 16-10, with 12:28 left the Eagles went on a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 14, 24-10, at the 10:42 mark. 

Eastern went on to hold that double-digit lead through the rest of the half, heading into intermission with a 37-21 advantage. 

Medlock led the Eagles' first-half scoring with 12 while Bowdry tallied 10 points with nine rebounds. Eastern made 50 percent of its shots from the field, hitting 16-of-32 while Northwood connected on just 8-of-32 shots for 25 percent and only 1-of-10 triple tries. 

Northwood came out of halftime and hit the first basket on a short jumper by Sullivan, but the Eagles answered on a layup by Bowdry and added a three-point play by Higgins for a 42-23 EMU lead with 19:12 left in the game. 

The visitors cut the EMU lead to 12, 51-39, with 11:43 left, but Medlock pushed it right back to 14 on two free throws and the closest the Timberwolves would get would be 12. 

Eastern will swing back into action Sunday, Jan. 3, at home against Chicago State University.
