Eagles Unable to Corral West Division Leading Broncos

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University freshman Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) again showed why she is one of the top freshman in the Mid-American Conference, posting her seventh double-double of the season Friday evening here at University Arena. However, her 18 kill, 23 dig performance was not enough for the Eagles to upend the MAC West Division leading Broncos of Western Michigan University, 3-1 (23-25, 14-25, 25-17, 21-25).

The Broncos remain perfect in league action at 5-0 and 13-7 overall, while the Eagles' fall to 3-17 overall and 2-3 in MAC play.

Behind Iaquaniello, freshman Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) had nine put-a-ways and six block assists as the Eagles notched a .152 attack percentage (49-22-178) for the contest. Junior Jennifer Swartz (Canton, Mich.-Westland John Glenn) finished with seven kills and two block assists. Sophomore setter Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) dished out 39 assists to go along with 12 digs and six kills.

Three Broncos finished with double-digit kills including Michelle Moore with a team-best 18 kills, while Allyson Doyle and Jessica Brown finished with 11 and 10, respectively. WMU had more digs (94-82), assists (56-48), aces (3-0) and kills (61-49) than the EMU.

The Green and White continue in its road swing Saturday evening, Oct. 19, with a stop in DeKalb, Ill. to face Northern Illinois University. First serve versus the Huskies is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST at Victor E. Gym inside the Convocation Center.
