YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – On Senior Day, Ashley Rodrigues delivered with her eighth goal of the season and fifth game-winner, helping the Eagles to a 2-0 shutout over Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green at Scicluna Field Sunday, Oct. 25.
The senior Rodrigues took a perfect through ball from fellow senior Carissa Wilson on a breakaway and with one touch, fired a shot over the outstretched hand of Bowling Green goalkeeper Alexa Arsenault. The score came just 11 minutes into the game and the Eagles never looked back.
EMU controlled possession for the majority of the match despite getting out-shot 16-11. The Falcons (5-11-3, 1-6-3 MAC) lead the league in corner kicks gained and they garnered an impressive nine on Sunday. Fortunately for the Eagles, none were converted.
Amanda Marsh provided some insurance with her third goal of the season in the 51st minute. From inside the 20-yard box, Chelsea Detrick used a back pass to setup Marsh and it worked to perfection, giving her a wide open lane to the net to beat the keeper.
The Green and White reached the double-digit win plateau for the second straight season, moving its record to 10-3-5 overall, 6-1-3 in the MAC. The victory marked the Eagles ninth shutout of the season as well. Monique Budani made 10 saves en route to her fourth win, all of which coming by virtue of the shutout.
EMU will host the regular season finale against Central Michigan this Thursday, Oct. 29 at Scicluna Field. The Eagles cling to the No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament, which begins Nov. 1, while the Chippewas (14-3-1, 9-0-1 MAC) have already clinched the top seed.
