Volleyball Swept by Miami

OXFORD, Ohio, (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell short against Miami University Saturday evening, Oct. 17, in Mid-American Conference action here at Millett Hall. The RedHawks posted set victories of 25-23, 25-23, 25-22, as the Eagles were able to keep victory in sight each time out. The Green and White were led by freshman Rachel Iaquaniello with 14 kills and seven digs.
The Eagles started off strong leading throughout most of the first set. Iaquaniello had five kills, while Kristen Baker and Jennifer Swartz each followed with four apiece. Maria Leahy led Miami in the first set also with five kills. Eastern came close until Miami rallied off five straight points to take the set.
The second set was neck-and-neck, tying the score seven times, until Miami again rallied off five points to lead 2-0.
The RedHawks proved too much for the eagles in the third set finishing (22-25). The Eagles drop to 3-21 overall and 2-6 in the MAC. As a team Eastern had 48 kills and hit .303. Ashley Mason had 42 assists and seven digs. Haley Stein had a strong defensive game with 16 digs. Leahy led Miami with 15 kills and 13 digs on the night.
The Eagles return home for their next match to face the University of Akron Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m.
