Women's Swimming Gets Past Cardinals

MUNCIE, Ind.- The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team picked up its fourth Mid-American Conference win of the season, defeating the Ball State University Cardinals, 177.5-120.5, Saturday, Jan. 24. With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-3 (4-1 MAC) on the year.

The 200 medley relay team won the first event of the afternoon, with freshman Samantha Partridge (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) winning the 1,000 free in the next event. Alissa Ricard (Tucson, Ariz.-Catalina Foothils) and Steph Cholyk (Aurora, Ont.-Aurora) took the top two spots in the 200 free before Sarah Maraskine (Midland, Mich.-Dow) and Michele Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa.-State College) did the same in the 100 back.

Elisa Torres (Antioch, Calif.-Deer Valley) hit the wall first in the 200 fly before a trio of Eagles, led by Ricard's first place performance, swept the 50 free. Sarah Kowalski (Muncie, Ind.-Yorktown) led the way in the 100 free, with Ricard and Cholyk right behind her, putting the meet out of reach for the Cardinals. Leeza Moser (Vicksburg, Mich.) then won the 200 back before Partridge picked up her second win of the afternoon in the 500 free. Sam Nameth (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) then won the 100 fly and Ashley Durand (Lincoln, Neb.-Southeast) picked up a win in the 200 IM for the Green and White to keep the Eagles in first place in the MAC.

The Eagles return to action Saturday, Jan. 31 when they host Miami University at 1 p.m. at Jones Natatorium. The meet marks Senior Day for the Eagles, who will honor their seniors before the meet.
