Ashley Rodriuges dishes out three assists, tying single-game mark

CHARLESTON, Ill.- The Eastern Michigan University soccer team used a powerful offense, including three second-half goals, to pick up its second win of the season, defeating the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 4-0, Sunday, Sept. 7 at Lakeside Field. With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-1-2 on the season.

The Eagles were able to take the lead in the first half and never look back, as Katie Lozar (Broadview Heights, Ohio-Brecksville) found the back of the net with 25 minutes remaining in the first frame. Ashely Rodrigues (Pickering, Ont.-St. Mary’s Catholic) found Lozar from about 18 yards out, as she scored her second goal of the season. Lozar’s goal marked the first first-half goal of the season for the Eagles, who took a 1-0 halftime advantage.

EMU knocked another goal in when Carissa Wilson (Linden, Mich.-Linden) found Paige Sheridan (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Mercy) off a cross to put the Eagles up, 2-0, just 10 minutes into the second half.

Freshman Chelsea Detrick (Grosse Pointe, Mich.-Grosse Pointe North) then took over, scoring two goals in the span of three minutes. Detrick first took a pass from Rodrigues and split the posts, putting the visitors up, 3-0. Detrick was not done, scoring just over three minutes later, off a cross from Rodriuges and Jessica Lathrop (Indianapolis, Ind.-Lawrence North), to notch her third goal of the season. Rodrigues picked up her third assist of the afternoon off Detrick’s second goal, tying the single-game mark.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Manville (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) picked up her third shutout of the season, making one save on the afternoon. The Eagles out-shot the Panthers, 20-8, including an 8-1 shot-on-goal advantage.

EMU will continue its road swing next weekend, when the team travels to Florida for two matches. First up for the Eagles will be the University of Miami, Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. EMU will stay in the Sunshine State for one more game, taking on the Florida Atlantic Owls, Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
