PITTSBURGH, Pa.- Behind 2-0, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team took set three but the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams were able to take a 3-1 (15-25, 23-25, 25-21, 14-25) decision Friday morning, Sept. 19, at the Pittsburgh Invitational in at Fitzgerald Field House.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 5-7 on the season, while the Rams better their mark to 6-4.
Senior Hayvolla Leite (Paraiba, Brazil-Indian Hills CC) paced the Eagles’ offense with 14 kills on the match. Junior Victoria Randolph (Cincinnati, Ohio-Mount Notre Dame) chipped in 10 of her own, while freshman Ashley Mason (East Lake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) chalked up 37 assists and 6 digs for the Green and White.
Elisa Kuehnel led the way for the Rams with 12 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while Ivana Rich recorded nine kills.
The Eagles return to action tonight at the Pittsburgh Invitational for a 7:30 p.m. tilt against the host Panthers. EMU will then conclude the tournament with a 11 a.m. match against Gonzaga, Sept. 20.
