Men's Basketball Team Selected for Preseason NIT

Eagles play at Purdue on ESPN2 in opening round

YPSILANTI, Mich. — The 2008-09 Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team is one of 16 teams invited to play in the 2008 Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off set to begin Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 17-18, at four regional sites.

Head coach Charles E. Ramsey’s Eagles are seeded No. 14 and scheduled to play No. 1 seed Purdue University at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, in a game scheduled to be televised on ESPN2. Georgia and Loyola Chicago are slated to meet in the other first-round game at Purdue, Nov. 17, at 9:30 p.m. The two losing teams will play in the consolation game Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m. with the championship tilt set for 7 p.m. on ESPNU. All of the North Regional games are slated to be played in Purdue’s Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.

The winners of the four regionals will advance to New York City’s Madison Square Garden Wednesday, Nov. 26, for the semifinals. The action will continue in Madison Square Garden with the losers of the semifinal round playing at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, with the championship game set for later that afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
