EAST LANSING, Mich. — Four Eastern Michigan University women’s golfers turned in a pair of solid rounds at the 92nd Michigan Women's Amateur Golf Championship here Tuesday, July 8, at Walnut Hills Country Club.

Stephany Fleet (Dewitt, Mich.-Dewitt), Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea),  Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) and Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso)all finished in the top 30 following two rounds of stoke play. The competition now switches to match play for the final three rounds.

Fleet, a senior-to-be next year, turned in a 150 (73-77) to finish in fourth place behind Shasta Averyhardy (147), Julie Massa (148) and Laura Bavaird (149). Peters, heading into her sophomore year in 2008-09, tied for 11th with a 154 (79-75) while Aili, also a senior-to-be in the fall, finished with a 158 (77-81) in a tie for 20th place. Bevington, a redshirt freshman, posted a 160 (78-82) to place 29th.

Now the low 32 players will work their way through a match play bracket to in an effort to be crowned the best amateur player in the state for 2008. Last year's championship saw Bavaird defeat Averyhardt in extra holes in the final match to take the title.

The Eagles completed a record-setting 2007-08 season with a second place showing at the 2008 Mid-American Conference Championship at the Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis, Ind., April 25-27. Under the guidance of third-year head coach Sandy Wagner, the Green and White won a school-record four in-season tournaments. Additionally, the Eagles’ scoring average of 307.1 was the lowest total in the program’s 14-year history. The mark is 17.61 strokes per 18 holes (307.01 to 324.68) better than when Wagner arrived on the Ypsilanti campus.
