Frankowski Named to Academic All-MAC Squad

Ranks 10th in career singles wins
CLEVELAND, Ohio- Senior Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Alberus Magus Gymnasium) was named to the 2008 Academic All-Mid-American Conference list for the first time in her career, as announced by the league office Wednesday (May 7).
Frankowski, an international business major carrying a 3.83 GPA, closed out her career at EMU with a win at the 2008 MAC Tournament, defeating Bowling Green's Kelsey Jakupcin in straight sets at the top flight, 6-2, 6-4. Her 77 total career wins ranks tied for 10th in school history with Tracy Varker.
In 2008, she posted an overall record of 24-12, including a 15-6 dual match and 8-1 MAC mark (regular and post season). She ended the year on a seven match win streak, including nine of the last 10. She totaled 33 wins (singles and doubles) in 2007-08. She was a three time MAC Player of the week in 2008 (five total career honors) for the periods ending Feb. 19, March 18 and April 8. She recorded victories as the eagles defeated No. 56 Bowling Green and ending their 11-match season-opening win streak.
The eight-member team was voted on by the league’s Faculty Athletic Representatives from among a list of student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
