Shoemaker Earns MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week Honors

Junior pitched second straight complete game win

CLEVELAND, Ohio. — Eastern Michigan University junior Matt Shoemaker (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for the period ending May 17, announced the conference office, today, May 18.

Shoemaker pitched his second straight complete game win against Central Michigan University, Thursday, May 15, in the series opener. The Trenton, Mich. native scattered seven hits, giving up just two earned runs while striking out two Chippewa batters in Eastern Michigan’s 6-4 win.

Shoemaker’s win Thursday help set the Eagles up for their second straight MAC West Division crown and a No. 2 seed at the post-season tournament to be held in Chillicothe, Ohio.

The junior hurler and the Eagles will be in action Wednesday, May 21, in first-round action of the MAC Tournament. The No. 2 seed Eagles will square off against the No. 7 seed Western Michigan Broncos at 12:30 p.m. at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
