YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team travels to the NCAA Central Regional Thursday-Saturday, May 15-17, in Columbus, Ohio. The regional will be hosted by Ohio State University and played at the Scarlet Course. The course is set up as a par 71 with a yardage of 7,455.

The event consists of three rounds, 18 holes each day. EMU enters the 27-team regional as the 24th seed. The top 10 teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on to the championship finals on May 28-31.

Alabama, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Florida, Tennessee, Lamar, Wake Forest, Indiana, Texas A&M, Louisville, Wichita State, Kent State, Penn State, Arkansas, Michigan, TCU, Texas-Arlington, Illinois, Ohio State, Baylor, Colorado, Eastern Kentucky, Marquette, Eastern Michigan, Cleveland State, Loyola (Maryland) and Sacred Heart make up the field.

Tee times are set for 7 a.m. EDT each round. Pairings will be in threesomes in all three rounds from the first and 10th tees.

Head coach Bruce Cunningham is accustomed to the NCAA experience, as the 13th-year mentor has either placed a team or an individual in the last four NCAA Tournaments dating back to the 2005 campaign. Just last season, the Eagles placed 15th at the NCAA East Regional in their first team appearance in more than 60 years. Additionally, former EMU great Korey Mahoney qualified as an individual in both the 2005 and 2006 championships.

Prior to the current streak of NCAA appearances, Bob McNiff qualified for the championships in 1985 and Marc Dingman made back-to-back appearances in 1981 and 1982. Eastern Michigan made its first NCAA Championship appearance in 1947, when the then-Hurons finished 37th.

Established in 1938, the Scarlet Golf Course is rated the best collegiate facility in the country by Golf Digest. Located two miles northwest of the OSU campus, the par 71 course carries a rating of 76.1 with a slope of 142. From the championship tees, it stretches out to 7,455 yards of rolling terrain and contains a nine-acre lake and winding stream that creates challenging play on several holes. The large contoured greens are surrounded by strategically placed bunkers, adding to the difficulty of the course.
