Eagles improve to 4-3 in MAC action
The Eagles improve their overall season mark to 8-12, with a 4-3 MAC mark, while the Zips fall to 5-13 and 0-7, respectively.
The Eagles opened up the match by losing the doubles point, as Akron claimed two out of the three doubles wins. Seniors Vanessa Frankowski and Tina Bestehorn won at the No. 1 doubles spot for the Green and White, defeating Tanyaradzwa Gombera and Carolina Castro Cota by an 8-4 mark.
Despite losing the doubles points, the Eagles climbed back and swept all six singles matches in straight sets, losing just 22 games of a possible 72. Frankowski and Aleksandra Stankovic recorded wins at the first and fifth flights, respectively, improving their MAC dual mark to 6-1. Frankowski lost only four games in her win, while Stankovic lost just one.
Aditi Krishnan, Sandra Wikstrom, Joanna Woo and Bestehorn each recorded their second straight singles victory.
The Eagles travel to Buffalo, N.Y., to take on the University at Buffalo Saturday, April 19. The match is set for 1p.m. and will be played at the University Tennis Club. The 2008 MAC tournament runs from April 24-27 in Buffalo. The Eagles have locked in at least a sixth seed in the tournament and could go as high as six pending results from this weekend's league matches.
