Eagles Dominate Huskies

Improve to 7-12 on the season
DeKALB, Ill.-The Eastern Michigan University women’s tennis team blanked Northern Illinois University, 7-0, in Mid-American Conference action, today, April 11, at the Huskie Tennis Courts.
The Eagles improve their MAC mark to .500 (3-3) and 7-12 overall. The Huskies drop to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the MAC.
The Green and White won the doubles points, winning two out of three matches. Sandra Wikstrom (Lodose, Sweden/Katrinelunds Gymnasiet) and Aleksandra Stankovic (Stockholm, Sweden/Walthers Gymnasium) teamed up at the No. 2 doubles flight, capturing an 8-5 victory over NIU’s Jenny Ender and Lilian Asuaje. At the third doubles, Joanna Woo (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey Collegiate) and Aditi Krishnan (Markham,Ontario-Canada/Markvile Secondary School) took on Dora Delgadillo and Stephanie Okuma, defeating them by a score of 8-4.
The Eagles dominated the singles competitions, winning all six matches and losing just 27 total games out of a possible 72. At No.1 singles, Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany/Albertus Magus Gymnasium) defeated Nao Umemura in straight sets, losing just two games in the win (6-0, 6-2).
Krishnan fought Lilian Asuaje at the No. 2 flight all the way to the end, defeating her 6-4, 7-5. Tina Besthorn (Ebenhausen, Germany/Icking Gymnasium) defeated Brooke Forsberg in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Wikstrom, at the No. 4 singles defeated Jenny Edner 6-3, 6-3.
At the fifth flight, Stankovic downed Delgadillo in two sets, 6-3, 6-1. Joanna Woo lost only two games in the taking the final point for the Eagles in convincing fashion, winning by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
The Eagles will wrap up MAC action next weekend, April 18-19, as the head east to compete against Akron before heading to Buffalo. Both matches will begin at 1 p.m.
