YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team captured its fifth straight meet and six out its last seven. The Eagles posted a 192.475 here today at the Eagle Invitational, defeating Illinois State University, the Air Force Academy and conference rival Northern Illinois. NIU finished in second place with a 191.750 followed by ISU with a 190.625 and Air Force with a 189.750.

The Eagles posted a 192.475 here today at the Eagle Invitational, defeating Illinois State University, the Air Force Academy and conference rival Northern Illinois. NIU finished in second place with a 191.750 followed by ISU with a 190.625 and Air Force with a 189.750.
With the win the Eagles improve to 10-3, 3-1 in conference action on the year.
Junior Duyen Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ontario-DelaSalle) and senior Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla.-William R. Boone) started the Eagles off on the right foot, finishing first and second on the vault respectively. Vuong posted a 9.825 for the win while Worley finished with a 9.800.
On the bars, EMU took three of the top five places. Vuong picked up her second event win of the night, posting a 9.700. Sophomore Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) took third with a 9.650 while Worley took fifth with a 9.575.
On the beam Grigg placed fifth with a 9.700 while freshman Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) finished close behind in fifth place with a 9.650.
EMU finished the night off taking the top two spots on the floor exercise. Worley finished in the top spot with a 9.850 while sophomore teammate Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn.-Spring Lake Park) posted a season-high mark of 9.825 to take second place.
The Eagles will be in action again Friday, March 14, as they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, for a dual meet with BGSU and Northern Illinois. Meet time is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
