Six Swimmers Selected Academic All-MAC

Burandt, Pilchard and Renkola repeat selections
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team had a league-high six swimmers selected Academic All-Mid-American Conference, the conference office announced today, March 4. The team is selected by the league faculty athletic representatives.
Seniors Madeleine Pilchard and Becky Renkola, along with junior Hannah Burandt were repeat selections. Pilchard, an accounting major with a 3.91 GPA, is a three-time honoree, while Renkola, a political science major with a 3.64 GPA, and Burandt, a secondary education math major with a 3.88 GPA, were selected for the second consecutive year.
Also joining the squad for the Eagles were Ashley Durand, Leeza Moser and Alissa Ricard. Durand is a biology major with a 3.65 GPA, while Moser is majoring in communications with a 3.70 GPA. Rounding out the team for EMU is Ricard, an exercise science major with a 3.54 GPA.
A total of 21 student-athletes were named to the team. The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC Team is the number that is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
