DADE CITY, Fla. – Despite improving by nine shots from the first round, the Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team dropped to 13th place Saturday, March 1, here at the highly competitive Ron Smith/USF Invitational. The Eagles, who were tied for 11th place with a 301 after the first day, fired a 292 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 593 at the par 72, 7,084 yard Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
Middle Tennessee State University holds a 10-shot lead over second-place Southeastern Louisiana with a nine-under 567 heading into Sunday's final round. The Blue Raiders entered the day with a four-shot lead but scorched the course with an eight-under 280 to create an even greater edge.
Senior Graham Hill (Brights Grove, Ontario-Northern Collegiate (Indiana (Pa.) and junior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) are tied for 23rd place with a two-over 146. Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) and Peter Sauerbrei (Kingston, Ontario-Kingston Collegiate) are deadlocked with a 151 for a tied for 53rd. Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) rounded out the lineup with a 74 for a two-day total of 152 in 59th place.
Jacksonville State's Julian Colmenares holds a two-stroke advantaged on the individual lead with a seven-under 137 (71-66).
The tournament concludes Sunday, March 2, with third round action starting at 8 a.m.
