Eagles Drop 6-1 Match to UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the University of California-Santa Barbara, Feb. 25. The Eagles fall to 3-5 (0-0 MAC) on the season while the Gauchos improve to 3-2 (1-1 Big West).

"Despite the final score, we had some close singles matches and I saw some bright spots for being our first outdoor match," said head coach Ryan Ray. "It was dissapointing to lose two three set matches when we one the first sets, but I think with more outdoor experience we will be able to capitalize in key situations better."

Senior Tina Bestehorn, at the No. 4 singles, claimed the lone win for the Eagles. In two sets, she dominated her opponent, Asagi Osaga, by a score of 6-3, 6-0. She evens out her overall season record to 4-4.

Senior Flavia Micati defeated Juliette Mutzke in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (2) in an exhibition match.

The Eagles lost several close matches. Vanessa Frankowski lost in three sets to Marta Simic, 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (6), while Aleksandra Stankovic lost in three as well, to Tova Hausman, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (2).

Next up for the Eagles will be Cal State Fullerton, tomorrow, Feb. 26 with first serve set for 2 p.m. (PT).
