EMU CLASSIC HOME FINALE: The Eastern Michigan University women’s track and field team will host the final home meet of the indoor season Saturday, Feb. 16. The EMU Classic will kick off at 9 a.m. with the field events and run throughout the day. Running events will start at noon.

KEPPLER WINS MAC AWARD: Janice Keppler was named the Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week, for the week ending Feb. 10, as announced by the league office. Keppler won the award for the first time in her career after an outstanding performance at the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 8-9. Keppler jumped a personal-best 13-03.50 in a strong pole vault field at the Meyo Invite to finish third in the event. This mark was a NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark for the fourth time this season, and ranks her 14th in the nation.

MAC’s APPROACHING FAST: The 2008 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships are fast approaching, taking place Feb. 29 and March 1, here, at Bob Parks Track in Bowen Field House. Several Eagles rank in the top eight in MAC standings.

MEYO INVITE WRAPUP: The Eastern Michigan University women’s track team traveled to South Bend, Ind., to take part in the 21st Annual Meyo Invitational Feb. 8-9. Junior Janice Keppler led the way for the Eagles, finishing third in the pole vault. Although she didn’t win, she improved her season-best mark to 13-03.50

The Eagles had several athletes hit their season or career-best at the Meyo Invite, a meet that features some of the best track collegians in the nation. Freshman Dejaa Shearer continues to drop her 400 meter time. This week, she ran 57.06 seconds. She also had an outstanding finish in the 300 meters, crossing the finish in fifth place with a time of 40.15 seconds. Fellow newcomer Beverly Elcock improved her time in the 800 meters to 2:14.06. Lauren Quaintance dropped her 800 meter time to 2:19.04.

Andrea Wheeler continued to improve for the Eagles. She ran the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.89 seconds, which puts her in 10th place in the MAC, pending this weekends races.
