Head baseball coach Jay Alexander has announced five National Letters of Intent for the early signing period.
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan University head baseball coach Jay Alexander has announced five recruits have signed the National Letter of Intent for the early signing period in November. The early signees include Joe Battistelli (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park), Brett Cisper (Cincinnati, Ohio-Moeller), Bo Kinder (Wapella, Ill.-Kaskaskia Community College), Steve Weber (North Royalton, Ohio-North Royalton), and Ben Magsig (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos).
“All of the players we signed early are extremely athletic and have the ability to play a position and pitch,” Alexander said. “In addition, they are student-athletes in every since of the word and we are excited to get solid students who can play baseball.”
“This is our coaching staff's first recruiting class at EMU and I am proud of the job coach [Andrew] Maki has done identifying players who will fit into the EMU baseball family,” Alexander added. “We look for these players to take on major roles in continuing the success of the EMU baseball program.”
Joe Battistelli
6-foot, 165 lbs: RHP/SS
Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park
Alexander on Battistelli: “Joe can play anywhere on the field. He has very good speed and he possesses an upper 80s fastball topping out at 90. We look for him to give us added depth on our team.”
Brett Cisper
6-foot-1, 190 lbs: SS/RHP
Cincinnati, Ohio-Moeller
Alexander on Cisper: “Brett is projected to give us depth in the outfield and/or the corner infield positions. In addition he will be used on the mound. He has command of the strike zone and throws in the mid to high 80s. He has the ability to put up power numbers at the plate.”
Bo Kinder
5-foot-11, 170 lbs: OF/LHP
Wapella, Ill.-Kaskaskia Community College
Alexander on Kinder: “Bo brings experience we need in the outfield. He is fast, smart and he can hit at the top of the lineup from the left side. He has a strong arm (has been clocked as high as 91 from the outfield) he will also be a valuable addition to the pitching staff.”
Steve Weber
6-foot-6, 205 lbs: RHP
North Royalton, Ohio-North Royalton
Alexander on Weber: “Steve is young and has a lot of potential. I strongly believe that once he gets into our system his velocity will increase and he will become a power pitcher. Currently he pitches in the mid to high 80s.”
Ben Magsig
6-foot-1, 210 lbs: SS
Okemos, Mich.-Okemos
Alexander on Magsig: “Ben is a shortstop who will be converted to play first base for us. We look for him to give us big power and depth in the middle of our line up from the left side. In his senior year of high school he hit .564 with seven home runs and an on base percentage of .701.”
