YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University men’s swimming and diving team started the 2008-09 season with a 180-116 win over the University at Buffalo Friday, Nov. 7 at Jones Natatorium. The win marked the 51st consecutive Mid-American Conference dual meet win for the Eagles.

EMU started off with a victory in the 400 medley relay, with the team of Alan Duski (Zagreb, Croatia-Sports), Don Ellison (King City, Ont.-King City Secondary), Ryan Fulkerson (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) and Derick Roe (Sidney, Ohio-Sidney) picking up the win. Dan Kish (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) captured the 200 free with Sam Dolato (Howell, Mich.-Howell), Ellison and Scott Murphy (Houston, Texas-Cypress) taking the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke.

Fulkerson won the 200 fly with freshman Troy Esentan (North Little Rock, Ark.-Central) finishing runner-up before Roe and Gilles Renard (Huy, Belgium-Athenee Royal de Huy) did the same in the 50 freestyle. Roe then won his second individual event of the evening when he captured the 100 free with Murphy and Esentan going 1-2 in the 200 breast.

In addition to his 200 free victory, Kish also won the 500 freestyle with Dave Stefl (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Harrison) and Renard finishing right behind him. Fulkerson then picked up another individual win, winning the 100 fly. In the three-meter dive, the Eagles took the top three spots with Mitch Kellerman (Erlanger, Ky.-St. Henry), Matt Guinan (Victor, N.Y.-Victor Central) and Chris Alberty (Novi, Mich.-Novi) finishing within 10 points of each other.

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Nov. 8, when they welcome Xavier University to Jones Natatorium. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
