WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Eastern Michigan University Eagles dropped an 87-58 loss to No. 11/10 nationally ranked Purdue University Boilermakers Monday night, Nov. 17, here at Mackey Arena in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 1-1 on the season and move onto the consolation game Tuesday, Nov. 18. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. versus the University of Georgia, who lost to Loyola (Chicago), 74-53, in Monday night's second contest.

Junior forward Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) was one of two EMU players to reach double figures against Purdue, leading the Green and White with 16 points. Redshirt sophomore forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor Truman (Mich.)) chipped in 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Solomon Farris (Detroit, Mich-Osborn) grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.

For the game, Eastern Michigan shot 23-of-59 form the field, making just 3-of-14 three pointers and 9-of-19 free throws. Purdue shot 32-of-66, 8-of-23 three-point field goals and hit 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the charity line.

The Boilermakers had four players in double-figures, with Robbie Hummel leading the way with 18 points. E'Twaun Moore chipped in 17 points and a game-high six assists.

The Eagles opened the game on an 8-0 run, as Bowdry put the first two points onto the board for the Green and White at the 19:24 mark. Back-to-back buckets by Dobbins and a jumper by Farris gave the Eagles the eight-point edge, but the Boilermakers would not stay silent long as Purdue's JaJuan Johnson found the bucket.

Purdue would continue to carry its momentum, stringing together an 11-point stretch, to take the lead, 16-10, before a jumper by Farris and a dunk by Dobbins cut Purdue's lead to just two points, 16-14.

The Boilermakers continued to make a run at the basket, going on another run, this time for 10 points, putting the Eagles' deficit at 10. Purdue would head into the locker room at half time with a 20-point lead, 42-22. Dobbins would lead all Eagle scorers with 10 points going into the half.

Both teams went point-for-point to begin the second half, but the Boilermakers were too much for the Eagles, as Purdue closed out to take the 87-58 win.
