Volleyball Comes Up Short Versus Central Michigan, 3-0

EMU falls to CMU for second time this season

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team once again came up just a bit short, falling to instate rival Central Michigan University, 3-0 (14-25, 22-25, 14-25) in Mid-American Conference action Thursday night at the Convocation Center. The Eagles hung tight most of the match, but solid hitting propelled the Chippewas to the victory.
With the setback the Eagles drop to 9-21 overall and 3-12 in MAC play. On the flipside, Central Michigan ups its record to 19-8 (12-3 MAC) and remains one game off the West Division pace set by Western Michigan University with just one match remaining in the regular season.
The Eagles struggled offensively throughout the match, hitting just .038 overall. EMU had a trio of players notch seven kills while freshman setter Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) handed out 22 assists on the evening. Junior libero Kim Jarzynka (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Baldwin) was active on the back line, chalking up 18 digs.
The Chippewas had three players hit double digit kills, led by Kaitlyn Schultz’s 11 kills on a sizzling .667 attack percentage. Whitney Evers and Lauren Krupsky both racked up 11 kills with setter Stephanie Budde dishing out 38 assists in the victory.
Head coach Kim Berrington’s crew close out the home slate Saturday, Nov. 15, hosting Kent State University. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Convocation Center. Prior to the game the Eagles will honor seniors Hayvolla Leite (Paraiba, Brazil-Indian Hills CC) and Jill Wolosiansky (Uniontown, Ohio-Green) for their efforts to the team the past few seasons.
