CLEVELAND, Ohio – Eastern Michigan University senior golfer Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) was named Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week for the period ending Sept. 28, 2008. This marks the first time in his career that he has collected the weekly award.

Lemons turned in a career-best 13th place finish Tuesday afternoon at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate. The Portage, Mich. native was the Eagles' top finisher with a four-over par 220 (76-69-75) at the par 72, 7,197 yard Forest Oaks Country Club. Previously, Lemon's best collegiate showing was a tie for 15th with a 221(72-76-73) at the St. Mary's Invitational, Sept. 10-11, 2007, in Pebble Beach, Calif.

As a team, Eastern Michigan finished the star-studded event in a tie for seventh place with the University of Notre Dame with a 890 (313-280-297). Duke University overcame a five-shot deficit heading into the final day to capture the tournament title with a 869 (291-289-289). Michigan State University finished four strokes behind the Blue Devils with a 873 (293-286-294), while Michigan 874 (293-282-299), Louisville 878 (299-284-295) and host UNC-Greensboro 888 (296-291-301) rounded out the top five.

Eight teams – Louisville, Mississippi State, Duke, Michigan State, Memphis, Michigan, Purdue and EMU – participated in the NCAA Tournament last spring. Currently, Michigan is ranked No. 25 in the Golf World/Nike Coaches Poll with Duke close behind as the first team in the others receiving votes category. Michigan State, Pepperdine, Louisville, Mississippi State are also currently receiving votes in the Nike Poll. According to the Golfstat rankings (based on final place in tournaments), Pepperdine (28), Michigan State (34), Minnesota (35), Duke (37), Michigan (41), Louisville (42) and Mississippi State (45) are all ranked in the top 50 currently.

EMU returns to action Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate hosted by the Michigan State University at the Haig Point Club in Daufuskie Island, S.C. The tournament was originally scheduled for earlier this fall, Sept. 7-8, but Tropical Storm Hanna forced it to be pushed back.
