Tennis Escapes With 4-3 Win Over Detroit

Krishnan, Bestehorn, Stankovic and Micati give the Eagles the win
DETROIT, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team escaped with a 4-3 win over the University of Detroit Mercy. The Eagles better their record to 2-1 while the Titans fall to 0-2.
"We survived this match," said head coach Ryan Ray. "We weren't at full strength, we didn't perform at our best, and Detroit really pushed us."
The Green and White were without senior Vanessa Frankowski for the match, putting Aditi Krishnan in her spot at the No. 1 singles spot. She defeated Annie Moore, 7-5, 6-2. She teamed up with Joanna Woo to take the lone win at the No. 2 doubles spot, beating Kelly Davis and Svetlana Flankova, 8-5.
Tina Bestehorn won the No. 3 singles against Detroit's Aneta Maricevic, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
"Tina did a great job of coming back from a set down to clinch the match for us," said Ray.
The other two Eagles to clinch wins in singles were Aleksandra Stankovic and Flavia Micati. Stankovic, at the No. 4 singles, defeated Erin Weldon 6-4, 6-0, while Micati took the win at the No. 6 slot against Davis in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
"I know we'll be in situations later in the year where we'll need to dig ourselves out of a hole like tonight, so hopefully this will be beneficial for us," said Ray.
After three matches away from home, the Eagles return to the friendly confines of the Chippewa Club Saturday, Feb. 2, when they take on Xavier University and Wright State University in a doubleheader. The Xavier match is set to begin at 1 p.m. while the Wright State match will begin at 8:15 p.m.
