Complete Results

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team opened up the 2008 season with a Mid-American Conference meet against rival Bowling Green State University, falling 191.950-191.525 earlier today at the Epper Complex in Bowling Green, Ohio. EMU was lead by sophomore Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) who tied for first on the vault and floor exercise program for the Green and White.

Grigg posted a 9.750 on the vault, tying for first place, and helping give the Eagles (0-1, 0-1 MAC) the slight edge heading into the second event of the night, the uneven bars. On the bars, junior Monica Lucas (Winston-Salem, N.C.-Reynolds) placed second, scoring a 9.750 while senior Jennifer Charlebois (Oshawa, Ontario-Eastdale Collegiate) tied for fourth place with a 9.650. The Falcons’ Michelle Luhini took first place honors with a 9.775, helping BGSU take the lead after two rotations.

The Eagles would close the gap during the third rotation, the balance beam, taking three of the top four places for the event. Junior Duyen Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ontario-DelaSalle) captured first place, scoring a 9.775 while reigning MAC all-around champion Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla.-William R. Boone) placed third with a 9.700 and Charlebois placed fourth with a 9.675.

Heading into the final event of the meet down 143.975-143.875, the Falcons were able to retain their lead with solid performances on the floor exercise. Meg Satterlee tied Grigg for first with a 9.775 while Queenie Gamble took third place honors with a 9.700, giving the Falcons the win by less then a half point.

The Eagles will be in action next Saturday, Jan. 26, as they host in-state rival Central Michigan. The match, which coincides with the CMU-EMU wrestling match, will start at 6 p.m. in Bowen Field House.
