Volleyball Drops a 3-1 Decision to Northern Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team struggled against Northern Illinois, dropping a 3-1 (30-28, 29-31, 22-30, 16-30) decision Saturday evening in Mid-American Conference action here at Victor E. Court. With the victory the defending MAC West Division Champion Huskies improve to 7-11 (1-3 MAC), while the Eagles fall to 12-7 (2-2 MAC) on the year.

Court. With the victory the defending MAC West Division Champion Huskies improve to 7-11 (1-3 MAC), while the Eagles fall to 12-7 (2-2 MAC) on the year.
The Eagles were led by senior Abby Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven), who turned in the 10th double-double of her career with 22 kills and 23 digs. The 22 kills are also a career-best, topping her previous high of 18 set earlier this year at Wright State, Sept. 4. Senior Katie Bates (Delta, Ohio-Evergreen) was the only other EMU player to reach double-digits in kills, posting 12 kills and five total blocks. Senior setter Kate Sulewski (Ottawa Lake, Mich.-Bedford) finished with 52 assists, seven digs and four kills.
Northern Illinois had four players reach double figures in kills, paced by Meagan Schoenrock with 22 kills and Dani D’Ambrose with 21. Maddie Hughes added 29 digs and Mandi Caputo tallied 63 assists.
The Green and White head to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. Thursday, Oct. 4, for a conference tilt against Central Michigan University. Eastern then returns to Ypsilanti Saturday, Oct. 6, for a home contest against nationally-ranked Ohio University. First serve for both matches is for 7 p.m.
