Volleyball Drops a 3-1 Decision to Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball fell to in-state rival Western Michigan University, 3-1 (30,27, 25-30, 21-30, 19-30) Friday night in Mid-American Conference action here at University Arena. Four Eagles posted double-figures in kills led by senior Abby Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven), who turned in a double-double with 16 kills and 17 digs.

Four Eagles posted double-figures in kills led by senior Abby Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven), who turned in a double-double with 16 kills and 17 digs.
The loss snaps EMU’s five match winning streak and drops the Eagles’ record to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in the MAC. Meanwhile the Broncos improve to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Besides Abby Reenders’ 16 kills, junior Jill Wolosiansky (Uniontown, Ohio-Green) powered down 15 kills on the evening. Senior Becky Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven) added 10 kills and four total blocks and senior Katie Bates (Delta, Ohio-Evergreen) posted 10 kills and two total blocks. Senior setter Kate Sulewski (Ottawa Lake, Mich.-Bedford) finished with 51 assists, nine digs and two kills.
Western had four players reach double figures in kills, led by Michelle Moore with 24 and Ashley Vogl with 18. Caitlin Strimel added 31 digs and Jilliam Mitchell tallied 50 assists.
EMU continues its three two-match road trip tomorrow, Sept. 29, with a MAC West Division contest against Northern Illinois University. First serve for both tilts is set for 7 p.m. CST.
