EMU starts conference season 1-0

 
OXFORD, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team defeated Miami University, 2-1 today at the Miami Soccer Field.
      With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-3-2 (1-0-0), while the RedHawks drop to 2-4-2 (0-1-0).  EMU has won its last six conference openers, dating back to 2002.
      EMU tallied 11 shots on the day, with 6 on goal.  The Green and White allowed 14 shots to MU but only five were on goal.  Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville picked up four saves on the day.
      The Eagles got on the board first when sophomore Maggie Christensen found the back of the net for her third goal of the season just over four minutes into the game. Sara Schiffbauer was credited with the assist. 
      EMU was not done scoring, as they would add another goal in the first half when sophomore Katie Lozar netted her second goal of the year off a pass from Stephanie Janssens
      Miami would pull within one score when Jackie Harder scored an unassisted goal right before the end of the first half.  Both teams would go scoreless in the second half.
            The Eagles continue their road swing when they travel to Munice, Ind. to take on Ball State University Sunday.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
