Day Two at the Gopher Invite

Micati and Bestehorn stay undefeated in singles.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn-- The women's tennis team competed in day two of the Gopher Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota Saturday and didn't fair as well as they had on day one. They finished they day off going 5-3 in singles play (including consolation sets) and 4-3 in doubles matches.
In the Maroon Singles Semifinal round, Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany/Albertus Magus Gymnasium) came across a tough opponent, Tijana Koprivica of Minnesota, who one the round, 6-1, 6-4.
In the quarterfinal consolation match, Aditi Krishnan (Markham,Ontario-Canada/Markvile Secondary School) lost 6-3, 3-6, 10-3. In the semifinal consolation set, Aleksandra Stankovic (Stockholm, Sweden/Walthers Gymnasium) outshone her opponent, Sierra Krebsback of Gustavus-Adolphus, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
In the Gold Singles Semifinal round, Tina Bestehorn (Ebenhausen, Germany/Icking Gymnasium) outlasted her opponent once again, winning by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Joanna Woo (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey Collegiate) won her quarterfinal consolation set, 6-2, 6-1. In the semifinal consolation, Emma Czarnecki (Huntington Woods, MI/Berkley High School) lost 6-3, 6-1.
In the Minnesota Singles semifinal round, Flavia Micati (Rio de Janerio, Brazil/Cejo Terejopolis RJ) kept her winning streak alive, defeating Diana Mendez of Northern Iowa, 6-4, 3-6, 17-15.
In the doubles, Frankowski and Stankovic once again teamed up to take out White and Frank from Gustuvus-Adolphus, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. They then went on to defeat Koprivica and Risebrough of Minnesota by a tight margin, 9-8.
In the consolation part of the doubles, Krishnan and Bestehorn went on to defeat Wylie and Wylie of South Dakota, 8-2, but unfortunately that was the end of the round as Karon's and Wisher of Iowa State, 8-3.
The final day of competition begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
