RIVERSIDE, Cal. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team dropped the first of two games to be played on their trip to the west coast this weekend, falling 2-0 to UC Riverside earlier this afternoon.
RIVERSIDE, Cal. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team dropped the first of two games to be played on their trip to the west coast this weekend, falling 2-0 to UC Riverside earlier this afternoon.
The Eagles offense was held to just one shot on goal while the Highlanders netted two of 12 shots registered on goal. With the loss, the Green and White fall to 2-2 on the season while UC Riverside improves to 3-2.
The Highlanders opened up the scoring in the 25th minute when freshman Kristina Kelly scored her first goal of her career, freshman Lauren Minami and sophomore Letty Villalpando earned the assist to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Eagles would settle down after the Kelly goal, holding UC Riverside’s offense in check until the 87th minute when freshman Latoya Holness put the game out of reach with her first career goal, giving the Highlanders the 2-0 edge with just three minutes remaining in the game.
The Eagles will look to get back to winning ways Sunday, Sept. 16, as they travel to Irvine, Cali. to take on the UC Irvine Anteaters. The game is slated for a 3 p.m. EST start.
