Four Eagles Compete In Amateur Tournaments

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Four members of the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team participated in various amateur tournaments this week.
Three Eagles competed in the Ninth Annual Toronto Star Amateur Tournament held at the Scarboro Golf and Country Club and the Cedar Brae Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Ontario, July 24-27. Freshman Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) finished tied for eighth place after a four-over-par weekend. (74-74-69-71). Eastern's two other representatives were able to place in the top 20 with freshman Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) tied for 12th with a six-over-par score of 290 (72-74-70-74). Sophomore Adam McCauley (Oakville, Ontario-Univ. Of Toronto) shot a 10-over-par 294 (75-71-72-76) for the tournament to finish with a share of 18th place.
Sophomore Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) competed this week in the Porter Cup at the Niagra Falls Country Club in Lewiston, New York, July 24-28. Ross finished with a fourteen-over-par final score of 294 (77-73-70-74) which earned him a share of 71st place.
The Porter Cup was first staged in 1959. It was originally known as the International Invitation at Niagara Falls Country Club and consisted largely of businessmen and college students from Western New York and Southern Ontario. Throughout the years the Porter Cup began attracting more of the top amateur players and today the Porter Cup today ranks as one of the top amateur Tournaments in the world.
The Eagles open their 2007-08 season at the St. Mary's Poppy Hills Intercollegiate in Monterey, Calif. Sept. 10-11.
