Box Score

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Eastern Michigan University baseball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped with a 10-0 shutout loss at the hands of in-state rival Central Michigan in Mid-American action here Friday night at Oestrike Stadium. With the loss, EMU (22-18, 14-3 MAC) now falls two games behind CMU (30-13, 17-2 MAC) in the West Division standings.

The much anticipated pitcher’s duel between Eastern’s Jeff Fischer (5-4) and Central’s Josh Collmenter, who are two of the conference’s best, went to Collmenter. The junior was outstanding on the mound for the Chippewas pitching a complete game shutout allowing only four Eagle hits while tying a career-high 14 strikeouts. Fischer picked up his first conference loss of the season allowing five runs on nine hits with only two strikeouts in 6.1 inning of work. Relief pitchers Dan Puls and Bobby Henderson also surrendered a combined five runs on five hits.

At the plate, CMU showed why it is the best hitting team the MAC scoring 10 runs on 14 hits and was led by Ben Humphrey who went 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Conversely, Eastern’s offense struggled tallying only four hits with senior Patrick Dean leading the way going 2-for-3. Junior Steve Bradshaw and sophomore Aaron Powell both went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Central got runs in the both second and sixth inning on RBI singles by Sean Hoorelbeke for a 2-0 lead.

The Chippewas broke the game open in the seventh inning with six runs on four hits to take a commanding 8-0 lead highlighted by a two run home run by Tyler Stovall. CMU added two more runs in the eighth for the 10-0 victory.

Game two of the three game series between EMU and CMU is Saturday, May 5 at 5 p.m. The Eagles will be hosting a field dedication to honor all those who helped the team get a new ProGrass infield at Oestrike Stadium.
