Worley Selected to Compete in NCAA Regionals

Vuong named alternate; pair to compete in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Eastern Michigan University junior gymnast Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla.-William R. Boone) was selected to compete in the all-around competition at the 2007 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the NCAA announced yesterday. Sophomore Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ontario-DelaSalle) was also selected as an alternate in the competition.

Worley won the individual all-around title at the Mid-American Conference Championships this past weekend. She posted a season-best 39.175 to become the first Eagle gymnast since Robin Loheide in 1993 to win the individual competition. Worley was also named to the All-MAC first team.

Vuong posted a 38.350 in the all-around competition for the Eagles at the MAC Championships. She will compete in the competition if one of the five all-around competitors is not able to compete.

Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 26-28, hosted by the University of Utah. Event winners will also advance to the championships, if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

The regionals will begin at 6 p.m. CST Saturday, April 14.
