Walk-off home run gives RedHawks victory

OXFORD, Ohio — A one-out walk-off home run by the RedHawks’s Halle Popson in the seventh inning ended the game, as Miami University defeated the Eastern Michigan University softball team 1-0, in Mid-American Conference action here Saturday afternoon at the Miami Softball Stadium. Each team totaled six hits and left eight runners on base, but the solo home run was the difference.
With the loss EMU falls to 19-18 and 9-4 in MAC action, while the RedHawks improve to 22-32-1 and a 10-7 league mark.
Six different Eagles registered a hit and senior Lauren Clark’s double was EMU’s lone extra-base hit in the contest. The Green and White stranded six of its base runners over the first three innings.
Senior Aimee Woodrum (9-7) pitched six and 1/3 innings adding seven strikeouts. Meredith Linch picked up the complete game shutout for Miami.
The two squads will square-off again Sunday, April 29 for the back end of its back-to-back game series. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Miami Softball Stadium.
