MUNCIE, Ind. — The Eastern Michigan University softball team swept Ball State University in Mid-American Conference action Friday afternoon at the BSU Softball Complex. Senior Michelle Lloyd allowed just three hits in a 7-1 decision in game one, while EMU pulled out a 6-3, 10-inning game in the nightcap. Senior Lauren Clark picked up five hits in the twin bill including one of the Eagles’ four home runs.

With the sweep EMU improves to 19-17 overall and 9-3 in league action, while the Cardinals fall to 20-30 and 6-10 in the MAC.

In game one, Lloyd (7-6) scattered three hits and recorded seven strikeouts in the complete game effort. Clark, senior Lindsay Schmid, freshman Jenny Scherer and junior Lindsay Ritz each posted two hits. Scherer and Schmid each knocked in two runs, with Scherer connecting on her team-leading seventh homer.

With EMU leading 3-0, a four-run Eagle sixth inning put the game out of reach. The Green and White cranked out 14 hits in the contest.

In the nightcap, senior Aimee Woodrum logged a career-high 10 innings, moving her record to 9-6 on the season. Clark posted a 3-for-5 game at the plate, knocking out her fourth home run of the season. Schmid and sophomore Heather Han also added a long ball.

Clark’s solo home run in the seventh put EMU up 3-2, but the Cardinals added an RBI double in the home half of the frame to send the game to extra-innings. In the 10th, the Green and White added three runs off an RBI single by Scherer followed by a two-run homer by Han.

The Eagles will be in action again Saturday, April 28 for a single game against Miami University. First-pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the Miami Softball Field.
