Women's Tennis Falls to Buffalo

Eagles Suffer 5-2 Defeat
YPSILANTI, Mich. —The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team suffered just its second defeat in the past month today here at the Chippewa Club. The University at Buffalo was able to sneak up on the red hot Eagles, posting the 5-2 win in Mid-American Conference play.
With the loss EMU drops to 11-9, 3-3 MAC while the Bulls improve to 14-2, 6-1 MAC.
Buffalo was able to take the early lead heading into singles after winning two of three doubles matches. Leading the way for EMU in doubles action was junior Aditi Krishnan (Merkhem,Onterio-Canada-Markvile Secondary School) and Tina Bestehorn (Ebenhausen, Germany-Icking Gymnasium), who defeated team Nenova/Stan by a 8-4 count.
In singles action No. 96 ranked Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium) was able to extend her winning streak to seven with Miglena Nenova retiring midway through the first match. EMU's only other singles win was delievered by senior Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64), knocking off Natalie Dean in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Parfenyuk pushes her win streak to eight matches and remains perfect in MAC competition with a 6-0 singles record.
"Of the first sets we won, we couldn't finish off our opponents. That was the difference in the match," said head coach Ryan Ray. "All of our conference losses have been by slim margins. Buffalo's a quality second place team that we could have beaten."
