Jeff Fisher notches second career complete game shutout, Eagle and Bobcats to play doubleheader on Saturday
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Junior ace Jeff Fischer (3-3) recorded his second career complete game shutout to lead the Eastern Michigan University baseball team to a 2-0 victory over Ohio University in Mid American-conference action here Friday afternoon at Oestrike Stadium. Fisher went the distance scattering just four hits and striking out five to record his sixth career complete game. In his last two starts, Fisher is a perfect 2-0 in conference games and has allowed only one run.
Runs were hard to come by as the Eagles' (10-14, 7-1 MAC) offense had trouble with Ohio (12-18, 2-8 MAC) pitcher Chris Rigo who also tossed a solid game going 8.0 innings with five hits, five strikeouts and two earned runs in the losing effort.
Eastern was led by junior Jeff Hehr who hit 1-for-3 with a RBI and run scored and senior Derek Lehrman who also went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Junior Steve Bradshaw went 1-for-4 with a run scored while Patrick Dean and Jeff Davis hit 1-for-3 and 1-for-2 respectively to round out the Eagles’ five hits of the game.
Ohio was led by Matt Stiffler who went 2-for-4 at the plate.
The only scoring of the game came with two outs in the bottom of the third inning as Bradshaw singled to third base and was driven in by a Hehr RBI double. Lehrman followed with RBI single to center field to score Hehr and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
EMU and Ohio will conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
