DEKALB, Ill.-- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team fell to Northern Illinois today at the Convocation Center, 194.375 - 193.250. The loss marks the second set back in Mid-American Conference competition for the Eagles.
EMU was lead by junior Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla-William R. Boone), who collected medalist honors in the all-around and floor exercise portions of the meet. Worley would set season-high marks in both events, posting a 9.825 on the floor and a 39.025 in the all-around.
On the vault, Eastern Michigan’s Duyen Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ontario-DelaSalle) tied for first, tying her season-high mark of 9.775. Teammate Tawna Bennett (Jacksonville, Fla-Edward White) would finish in third with a 9.750.
On the uneven bars for EMU Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) took third with a 9.800, a career-high mark. Worley would tie her season-high mark of 9.750, good for a fourth place finish.
Worley and Vuong would tie for second place on the balance beam with a 9.750 score, and finish one-two in the all-around competition with Worley posting a 39.025 and Vuong scoring a 38.975, a season-high mark for her.
The Eagles will look to get back to winning ways Mar. 10, as they host the Eagle Invitational. Ball State, Illinois State and Central Michigan will be in action at Bowen Field House agains the Eagles. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
