NORMAL, Ill.--
The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team traveled to Normal, Ill. today, Feb. 28, for a non-conference meet with Illinois State at Horton Field House. The Eagles defeated the Redbirds 192.950-190.300, capturing medalist honors in all but one event.

The Eagles started the first rotation on the vault with junior Tawna Bennett (Jacksonville, Fla-Edward White) winning medalist honors, tying a season-high with a 9.825. Sophomore Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ontario-DelaSalle) finished second to Bennett with a 9.775, also tying her season--high mark.

On the uneven bars, the only event in which EMU did not earn top honors, the Eagles would capture second and third place, with freshman Erin Grigg (North Bay, OntarioWiddifield) posting a career-high mark of 9.675, and Bennett in a close third with a score of 9.650, just under her season-high mark of 9.675.

On the beam Vuong would score a 9.725 on her way to taking medalist honors while junior Nicole Brostek (Sterling Heights, Mich-Stevenson) would finish second with a season-high 9.700.

The Eagles would seal the victory on the floor routine, earning first and second place. Junior Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla-William R. Boone) would continue her dominance in the event for the Eagles and pull through with a winning mark of 9.725, besting teammate Tawna Bennett, who tallied a 9.675.

In the all-around competition, Vuong would again capture medalist honors, posting a 38.375, while teammate Worley took second with a 38.225 mark.

The Eagles will be in action next Sunday, Mar. 4, as they travel to DeKalb, Ill. for a conference dual match with rival Northern Illinois. The meet is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time.
