Women's Tennis Blasts Bearcats

CINCINNATI, Ohio —The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team snapped its two match losing streak tonight, defeating the University of Cincinnati Bearcats 5-2, here at the Queen City Racquet Club. The Eagles used stellar doubles play to to clinch the non-conference victory.

"We did a great job implementing what we have been working on for doubles, and tonight it showed in near perfect execution", said head coach Ryan Ray.

EMU took four of six singles matches from UC to capture the early lead heading into doubles action. Posting singles wins for the Eagles were Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium) 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 over Hannah Hinton, Aditi Krishnan (Merkhem,Onterio-Canada-Markvile Secondary School), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Rachel Owens, Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64), 6-4, 6-4 over Alizee Paradis, and Emma Czarnecki (Berkley, Mich.-Berkley High School), 6-4, 6-2 over Jenny Rowen.

"Cincinnati is a tough team, they have picked up wins against Miami (Ohio) and Bowling Green, which are good wins; hopefully this will lead to good things in conference play for us", said Ray.

In doubles action, the Eagles continued their dominance by sweeping all matches contested. Frankowski and Parfenyuk won the number one match 8-3 while Krishnan and Bestehorn defeated Rachel Owens and Jenny Rowen, 8-5. In the third doubles match Cazrnecki and Fernandez defeated Elizabeth Young and Jennifer Keiner, 8-6.

The Eagles will be in action next Feb. 3, as they travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on University of Dayton in a non-conference dual match.
