Eagles Continue Winning Ways

EMU Defeats Stetson University 5-2
DELAND, Fla.
—The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team opened up its winter break tour of Florida, posting a 5-2 win over Stetson University earlier today at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The victory today was the fifth in a row for the Eagles, and improves their overall record to 6-3."For our first outdoor match I thought our performance was fairly good. We Still have two more matches down here, hopefully we can keep it going", said head coach Ryan Ray.
EMU took two of three doubles matches, earning a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The number one doubles team of Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium) and Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64) won their fifth match in a row, defeating Virginia Galbarini and Katherine Nowicki 8-4. Catherina Bestehorn (Ebenhausen, Germany-Icking Gymnasium) and Aditi Krishnan (Merkhem,Onterio-Canada-Markvile Secondary School) posted the second doubles win by a 8-6 margin.
In singles action, Frankowski, Parfenyuk and Bestehorn would all post straight set victories for the Eagles. Also notching a win was senior Laura Fernandez (La Vega, Dominican Republic-Colegio Inmaculada Concepcion), defeating Daniella Palmiotto 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.
The Eagles will continue their Florida tour, stopping next in Daytona Beach to square off against Bethune-Cookman. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start time.
