Eastern Michigan University swimmer collects fourth award of the week

CLEVELAND, Ohio—Eastern Michigan University junior Madeleine Pilchard (Marietta, Ga.-George Walton) was named Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 18, the conference office announced today. This marks the third time that Pilchard has received the weekly honor and second this season. The award concludes an honor filled week for Pilchard who was also named MAC Swimmer of the Year, first team All-MAC and to the Academic All-MAC team.  

The MAC Scholar Athlete Award is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week’s competition. The winners are selected by the conference’s faculty athletic representatives.

Pilchard, who boasts a 3.91 GPA as an accounting major, won five MAC championships en route to earning her second consecutive MAC Swimmer of the Year award and an All-MAC first team selection. Pilchard placed first in the 50, 200 and 500-yard freestyle events and swam anchor on the winning 400 and 800-yard relay races. She swam NCAA “B” cut times in all three individual events and set a MAC and meet record in the 200-yard freestyle to help the Eagles to their second consecutive MAC Championship. She was also a part of EMU’s second place 200-yard freestyle and third place 400-yard medley relay teams.
