Gymnastics Finishes Second at Cat Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team finished in second place last night, Feb. 23, at the 27th Annual Callaway Bank Cat Classic, hosted by the No. 17 ranked University of Missouri Tigers. The Eagles posted a score of 191.775, ahead of Bowling Green State University (190.650) and William and Mary (187.700).
In the vault portion of the classic, junior Tawna Bennett (Jacksonville, Fla-Edward White) posted a score of 9.800, just under her season-high mark of 9.825 for a fourth place finish. Also finishing in the top 10 was Duyen Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ontario-DelaSalle), posting a 9.725, good enough for ninth place. Freshman Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn.-Spring Lake Park High) and sophomore Stefanie James (West Windsor, N.J-WW-P North) tied for 10th place with a score of 9.700.
In the uneven bars, Vuong would take second with a season-high mark of 9.800 while Worley would finish ninth with a mark of 9.700. On the balance beam Worley would lead the way for the Eagles with a second place finish, posting a season-high mark of 9.875.
On the floor exercise, Worley would once again lead the Eagles, posting a 9.700 and taking second place. Also finishing in the top 10 was Vuong (9.600) and Balow (9.600), who tied for 10th place.
The individual event finals will take place today, Feb. 24th at 7 p.m. as the top ten finishers on each event compete for top honors.
