Reigning MAC Champions busy during early signing period

YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team took another step forward in the development of its program, signing three athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Steve Wilce announced.

Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, New Mexico-La Cueva), Stacie Wood (Burlington, Ontario-Burlington) and Amanda Fuller (Burlington, Ontario-Burlington) have all signed with the reigning Mid-American Conference Champion Eagles.

Yourick, a second-year level 10 at the Albuquerque Gymnastics School, is coached by Joe Camacho, John Charzuk and Christy Snell. She was a level eight regional bar champion, scoring a 9.8 and placing third at the level 10 New Mexico state championships. She is also a two-time level nine regional qualifier, as well as a 2007 Kurt Thomas finals qualifier.

Wood finished 12th overall in the 2007 National Championships and has represented Team Ontario in action across the United States over the past two seasons; in 2005 at the Kurt Thomas Invitational and the Lady Luck Invitational in 2006.  She also recently qualified for the Sand Dollar Invitational to be held in January. In the 2006 National Championships, she placed ninth overall, with her best finish during the floor routine where she placed seventh. Also, over the past two years at the Elite Ontario competition, she has placed in the top three on the beam and in the floor exercise routine, as well as taking third overall in 2006.

Fuller commits to the Eagles after completing her best season performance wise. She was fifth overall at Ontario’s Tour Selection and first overall at the Canada Winter Games Trials.  At the Trials, she placed second on the floor exercise and sixth on the vault.  Fuller also turned in a fifth overall performance at the Canada Winter Games, placing first on the bars and vault.  She turned in another fifth overall finish at the Ontario Championships, placing third on the beam.  During the past season, she also helped lead Team Ontario to a Gold Medal at the Canadian National Championships. In 2005-06 she placed eighth overall at the Ontario Championships and 20th at the Canadian National Championships. As a freshman in 2004-05, Fuller placed first on the floor and second on the vault at the Canadian Championships.

The Eagles start defense of their 2007 MAC title on January 19, 2008, as they host Bowling Green. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
