YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team opened up the 2007-08 season hosting the 16th annual EMU Open, today, Nov. 3, here at Bowen Field House. Over 400 wrestlers and competed in this year’s Open, making it the largest to date.
Two Green and White grapplers wrestled their way into place finishes; redshirt sophomore and No. 19 ranked Sean Clair (Turtlecreek, Pa.-Plum) posted a 4-1 record on the day en route to a third place finish in the 133 lbs. weight class, while redshirt freshman David Wade (Beavercreek, Ohio-Beavercreek) picked up four wins and a sixth place finish in the heavyweight class.
Other notable EMU efforts include freshman J.J. Johnson (Rockford, Mich.-Rockford) who went 6-2 on the day competing in the 149 lbs. weight class, and junior John McClure (Holland, Mich.-West Ottawa), who has moved up to the 197 lbs. this year after competing in the 184 lbs. class last season, picking up three wins on the day.
The Eagles will travel to East Lansing, Mich. Sunday, Nov. 11, to compete in the Michigan State Open before opening up dual meet action against Ohio in early December
