YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team used a strong second half effort and timely free-throw shooting to knock off the Wayne State University, 68-60, in the final exhibition contest of the season here at the Convocation Center. For the game EMU shot 41 percent from the floor and 73 percent from the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard Alyssa Pittman (Elkhart, Ind.-Elkhart Memorial) led the way for EMU with 20 points, going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.  Sophomore Kelly Watts (Gary, Ind.-Chicago Central) was the other Eagle in double figures, scoring 10 points to go along with six boards.

Bowling Green State University transfer Jasmine McCall led the Warriors with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Chastidy Miller added 15 points and Brooke Bowers chipped in 13.

In the first half, the teams traded baskets until a Pittman three-pointer with eight minutes remaining keyed a 7-0 run for the Eagles.  The Green and White headed into the lockerroom with an eight point lead that they would never relinquish. Junior Amber Land (Kulm, N.D.-Kulm) led the way for the Eagles at the break, scoring seven points and grabbing four rebounds.

The Eagles never trailed in the second half, leading by as many as 11 with just under six minutes to go.  The Warriors would then close the gap to five points with 1:40 remaining in the game, but the Green and White went 9-of-10 from the charity stripe to preserve the eight point victory.

The Eagles will tip off the 2007-08 season Sunday, Nov. 11, against Temple Baptist College at 2 p.m. at the EMU Convocation Center as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team playing host to Radford University.  A single ticket is good for both games.  For more ticket information, call the ticket office 734.487.2282.
