YPSILANTI
, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team had the chance to move into first place in the Mid-American Conference West Division, however, Western Michigan University spoiled the Eagles’ bid of pulling into a tie atop the leaderboard. The Broncos, who held a slim one match lead in the standings heading into the evening, posted a 3-0 (28-30, 18-30, 26-30) decision Saturday night here at the Convocation Center.

With the victory the Broncos improve to 18-9 and 10-4 in the conference, while the Eagles drop to 18-11 overall and 8-6 in MAC action. The loss also snaps the Green and White’s five match winning streak which dated back to an Oct. 19 sweep of Buffalo.

Senior Abby Reenders turned in another double-double with a team-high 12 kills and 13 digs, as the Eagles posted just a .170 attack percentage on the night. Sophomore Victoria Randolph was the only other EMU player to reach double figures kills with 11. Senior setter Katie Sulewski notched 38 assists, six digs, two kills and a block assist to go along with senior Katie Bates’ eight kills and four total blocks.

WMU was led by Michelle Moore’s 20 kills and .324 (20-6-46) hitting percentage, as the Broncos tallied 60 total kills for the match. Kate Eberling had 19 kills and Ashley Vogl recorded 10 kills for the visitors.

The EMU volleyball team will close out the home portion of the regular season Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. versus in-state rival Central Michigan University. Come out and support the Eagles as they honor seniors Bates, Corey Calcamuggio, Abby Reenders, Becky Reenders and Kate Sulewski. That talented group of five seniors has combined for a 69-47 record during their four-year careers, including a 28-9 mark here at the Convocation Center.
