Women's Basketball Cruises Past Temple Baptist

YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team made sure that first-year head coach AnnMarie Gilbert’s record started off on a good note as the Eagles cruised to a 108-22 non-conference win over the visiting Temple Baptist Runnin’ Rams Sunday afternoon here at the Convocation Center.

With the win, the Eagles go to 1-0 on the young season while the Runnin’ Rams drop to 0-3. The win set a number of Convocation Center records, including most points scored in a game (108), fewest points scored (22), margin of victory (86), most points in a half (62-first half), fewest points in a half (10-first half), field goals made (46), and field goals attempted (81).

The Eagles got on the board early and never looked back as they exploded in the first half on a 41-3 run before the Rams were able to add any more points to their tally. Eastern held its opponent to 10 first-half points while adding 62 of its own. The Eagles continued to dominate in the second half, holding the Rams to just 12 in the final 20 minutes.

Sophomore guard Alyssa Pittman (Elkhart, Ind.-Elkhart Memorial) led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points, and added five rebounds and five assists while freshman Cassie Schrock (Wadsworth, Ohio-Wadsworth) and junior Shana McKinney (Detroit, Mich.-Osborn) scored 13 points each. Brittany Tyson (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Huron) led the team with 10 assists to go along with eight points.

The Eagles will face the University of Detroit Mercy Wednesday, Nov. 14, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. at Calihan Hall. The Green and White will then return home to the friendly confines of the EMU Convocation Center, Saturday, Nov. 17, for a 2 p.m. contest against Wright State University.
